This page is in its building phase. Recently I have encountered some clients, who needed some information on issues, which I thought were known to them.

I have included a form on this page that will help me build it. So if you have a question, fire away!

How do I get an estimate from Photography by Depuhl? First of all contact us. Give us the details of your upcomming shoot and we will go over the project and come back to you with questions about your shoot. Then we will email you (or upload) an estimate containing all things necessary to produce your shoot. The more detailed your instructions and descriptions, the more detailed our estimate will be. Once we agree on the estimate, which includes a description of the job and usage rights, we’re ready to go.

What is included in your day rate? My day rate includes my time during the shoot. It does not include preproduction (i.E. casting, scouting, 'concepting', ...) nor post production (image processing, digital file management, file storage, ...) Everything that I do on the day(s) of your shoot is included. Other fees will be detailed on your estimate (travel, weather, ...).

What do you consider one day of photography? In the studio, a typical day is 8 hours. The rental studio will charge us overtime after that as well. On location, I work until the shots are finished, that is why my location day rate is typically higher that shooting in the studio. Locations, models, my crew, off duty police officers ...will charge you overtime. If we go over 12 hours, I do reserve the right to charge you an overtime fee. Private locations will limit our time with severe overtime charges, so many times my time is dictated by other factors.

How do I get images, once the shoot is finished? We have several ways of getting the final digital files to you: a) we can mail them to you on digital media b) we can upload them onto our FTP server, where they will be in a password protected directory for you to access. You are responsible to archive your final images.

How long do you archive my photographs? The day of the shoot everyghing gets backed up onto a second location, usually a network or an external hard drive. At the end of the shoot we burn all RAW data to DVD, which we store for one year. This data can be retrieved for you, but will need to be reprocessed, for an additional fee. We also offer long term storage on our servers and/or FTP site for your immediate retrieval. Additional Fees apply.

What is digital processing? Just as film had to be developed, edited and filed, today we have to do the same with the digital files we shoot. Once the shoot is complete we take the RAW camera file and neutralize the color, adjust contrast and brightness and make a general edit of the images. We then send a disc with low rez previews to our clients (via upload or digital media) for you to choose the final images to be processed. Once those selections are made, we fine tune the digital file, sharpen and size for final output. Even if you decide to download these files you will get a digital media copy of your final images.

What are the standard rights that a client purchases? Images get released to you for a specific purpose and a specific timeframe. These are defined in our contract, which is signed as part of the estimate. This will always include a description of the images that are to be shot and the usage for these images, which consists of duration (usually one year), location (usually the United States of America), media type (depending on what you are using the images for (print, advertising, website, billboard, email, catalog, ...); please see your specific contract for specific information. [This website is purely for informational purposes. The signed contract will always superceede anything written here.]

Can I use the images that Photography by Depuhl creates for me and use them for my suppliers or clients projects? No. Usage are specified in our usage agreement, which is part of the contract. If a client wants to use one of our photographs of your product, person or place for their own use, that must be part of your usage agreement or must be renegotiated.

What happens after the specified duration of usage is passed? Two things happen: a) you may no longer use the image b) I can resell the image to another client. Unless an unlimited buyout has been negotiated, the rate of additional time varies, but is always less then the original rate. If the image contains models, their fee will have to be renegotiated as well, we can handle that for you.z
